Heart attack hospitalization rates have been steadily decreasing over the past decade. This is likely due to many factors, including decreases in smoking rates, and the use of medicines that control cholesterol and blood pressure.

The rate of heart attack hospitalization increases with age for both men and women. In all age categories, men are hospitalized at a greater rate than women. Despite the fact that men are hospitalized at a greater rate after age 85, women are hospitalized in greater numbers than men of that age group.

Overtime, Minnesotans have experienced declining rates of heart attack hospitalizations. In 2020 with the COVID pandemic, rates dropped precipitously, with many contributing factors.
